DIPLOMA IN E-commerce

OBJECTIVE

To equip students with disciplines ranging from IT, E-commerce, marketing, business and broad-based knowledge such as business communication and teamwork. Students learn to acquire essential marketing and e-Commerce skills for the new knowledge-based economy. At the end of the course, students will have a sound working knowledge of the development and the applications of e-Commerce in all sectors of the new economy. Graduates will have the competency to conduct e-business activities through the Internet and to identify and serve their company's target markets effectively. The program will also equip graduates with the professional skills to develop and manage their own Internet site.

 

Admission Requirements

Academic:

  • Student must have minimum age of 17 years old with min 3 GCE 'O' Level passes, SPM or equivalent
  • Mature applicants of 25 years of age with minimum of 2 years of working experience
  • Other qualifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis

English Requirements:

If English is not your first language you are also required to provide evidence of your English language skills as listed below.

  • Min. English IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
  • Other qualifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis

You will learn the common terms used in the business world. Various exercises will be given, requiring you to apply the terms learnt to the business context. ICEM201 Electronic Commerce

This course covers emerging online technologies and trends and their influence on the electronic commerce marketplace. Students will learn various revenue models and how to market on the Web. Students will learn about important security issues, such as spam and phishing, their role in organized crime and terrorism, identity theft, and online payment fraud. Finally, students learn how to plan for electronic commerce.

ICPR223 Multi-Platform Programming I – JavaScript Programming

Through study of building Web Applications with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, the students will be able to acquire the knowledge and skills of how to use the new web standards to create rich applications that go beyond what previous technologies allowed. By following the examples in this program, the students will learn how to use these new standards in real-world applications, instead of just reading a dry reference manual. These real-life uses of the new HTML tags, WebSockets, and Canvas give the students the foundation of the skills required to build larger applications. Learning how to apply the new standards will prepare the students for the future of web development, regardless of what platform the users are on--desktop, tablet, or even smartphone.

MTPL311 Marketing Fundamentals

In this module, the students will learn the development of marketing and its changing role within a variety of organisations. It also provides students with an awareness and consideration of the various tools of the marketer and an evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses. This course also ensures students are able to recognise the impact achievable through modifying the marketing mix for (re)positioning the product and service offerings. This course also introduces students to the importance of planning in the management of the marketing activity.

MTAN402 Market Research & Data Management

This module introduces the principles and the key steps involved in the marketing research process. Students will understand the significance of research problem definition and research objectives setting to determine the appropriate research design, data collection methods, questionnaire design and sampling plan for accurate data collection. Other areas include marketing intelligence activities and research report preparation and communication. Opportunity to learn relevant IT skills for data tabulation, analysis and interpretation is provided. The module also explores the use of technology through online research and the utilization of database techniques for information management.

ICPR213 Multi-Platform Programming II – Java Programming

This module provides the fundamentals of the Java programming language. It teaches the basic concepts and methods of object-oriented programming and object oriented design. It further emphasize on the development cycle as a means of creating applications. It also demonstrates the power of Java as a multi-platform programming language where applications build from Java can be run in MS O/S, Linux and Apple O/S. Applications that build from Java can also be run in different devices, ranging from PCs to smartphones.

ICEM221 Essentials of E-Business

This module provides students with a comprehensive understanding of e-business entrepreneurship. Students will learn information related to the following topics: assessing entrepreneurial abilities, defining the entrepreneurial process, recognizing the characteristics of e-business and the role e-business plays in the global economy, identifying various e-business models, developing new e-business ideas, creating a business plan, securing startup financing, facing various startup challenges including hiring key staff and selecting technologies, marketing an e-business and its products or services, developing an e-business Web site, and securing an e-business’s assets from various internal and external threats.

Each module is assessed by academic work comprising of a mixed of assignments, tests, presentation, projects and final written examination as determined by the course outline. The assessment criterion varies from module to module.

Graduation Requirements
 
On successful completion of the Diploma program, students will be able to receive a certificate in Diploma in their respective area of course. This certificate is awarded by Chartered Institute of Technology.
 
Upon successful completion of this Diploma program, students will be able to proceed to Viterbo University in USA to study the Bachelor of Business Administration.
 
Student must achieve an overall mark score of minimum 50% for all the modules in order to graduate with the respective award.
