OBJECTIVE

The main educational aim of Business Information Technology Management are to provide you, the student, with opprtunities to:

  • Access a route to honour students who have studied a cognate award equivalent to a higher diploma.
  • Study for an honours Level III course that offers flexible delivery, supported by appropriate resources and guidance.
  • Develop transferable and cognitive skills in preparation for a variety of computing-related careers or a foundation for postgraduate study.
  • Study for a degree that will enable graduates to understand and implement software and Information Technology solutions within organisations.
  • Enable students to make effective choices in solving 'real-world' Business and Information Technology Management problems.
  • Use this course to meet market demand for personnel with a background in information technology and the management of information technology in business settings.

Entry Requirement:

  • Students completed the respective CITECH Diploma.
  • Other qualifications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • English requirement for foreign students is IELTS 6.0 & Writing IELTS 6.0.

Course Structure

Compulsory Modules Business Strategy The module integrates the functional interrelationships explored in Managing Resources and provides the student with a holistic perspective of how organisations determine their strategic direction. The module examines the strategic decision-making process through an investigation of external and internal environment, strategic options and implementation.
Management Information Systems This module aims to give students an understanding of Business Intelligence requirements and enable them to develop and manage corporate Business Intelligence systems. The module will introduce the skills and theory needed to transform an organisation’s data into actionable knowledge.
Project Planning This module provides the opportunity for students to study in depth a topic of their own choice within the subject area of the field. The content of this module will depend on the student's own interests, but will provide scope for students to demonstrate their ability to research, analyse, synthesise and evaluate appropriate literature and research findings. It may include a practical element, provided that the submitted work retains an academic emphasis.
Project Implementation This module provides the opportunity for students to study in depth a topic of their own choice within the subject area of the field. The content of this module will depend on the student's own interests, but will provide scope for students to demonstrate their ability to research, analyse, synthesise and evaluate appropriate literature and research findings. It may include a practical element, provided that the submitted work retains an academic emphasis.
Professional Issues The module introduces students to the philosophical and professional issues of information and communication technologies and considers these within a theoretical framework of professional codes of practice and conduct. This module broadens students' critical perspective of current professional issues considered from philosophical and professional perspectives such as codes of conduct, professional standards and the dynamics of technology.

New Business Development This module provides students with the opportunity to practise and evaluate realistic decision-making in a simulated business environment, taking account of internal and external information. The implications of decisions on different functional areas of an organisation are evaluated.
Human Computer Interactions The principles of human-computer interaction are considered in a variety of application areas which may vary from year to year. Topical subjects include virtual reality, computer supported collaborative working and video-conferencing. The module broadens students' critical perspective of current issues in human computer interaction considered from a various perspectives such as user characterisations, systems evaluation and user-centred issues with developing technologies.

Mode of Assessment
 
Each module is assessed by academic work comprising of a mixed of assignments, tests, presentation, projects and final written examination as determined by the course outline. The assessment criterion varies from module to module.
 
Learning and Teaching Strategies
 
Every modules are delivered via lectures, PowerPoint presentations, tutorials, and individual assistance as required.
 
Our courses are generally conducted on a modular basis.
 
Graduation Requirements
 
On successful completion of the Bachelor degree (top up) program, students will be able to receive a Bachelor degree certificate in their respective area of course. The certificate is awarded by University of Gloucestershire, UK. The degree award is the same as those awarded to students at University of Gloucestershire, UK.
 
Student must achieve an overall mark score of minimum 40% for all the modules in order to graduate with the respective award. The Board of Examiners will confirm at the point where a student has achieved the minimum credit requirement and the course requirements for their intended award.

The grades for awards of respective course are as follows:

5. 40% to 49% D Sufficient for the award of credit

7. 0% - 29% F Fail without entitlement to re-assessment
 
Students will be able to graduate with a ¡°Honours¡± degree upon meeting the award requirements. In determining the class of honours for the degree program, the University will use the following classification bands:

Class Classification Bands
First Class 70% and above
Upper Second Class (2i) 60% - 69%
Lower Second Class (2ii) 50% - 59%
Third Class 40% - 49%
 
In calculating the classification band in which a student falls, the average of the best 5 level 3 grades, rounded to the nearest whole number are used. If the rounded average is within 1% of a classification threshold (50, 60 or 70%), the student will be upgraded to the higher class if all the following criteria are met:

i. there are marks for at least 3 level 3 module credits in the higher class;

ii. there are marks for no more than 2 level 3 module credits in the mark range of the class below that of the rounded average.

Students will graduate with an ordinary degree if they fail to meet the above award requirements. Students must obtain a minimum pass of 3 modules in order to graduate with an ordinary degree.
